Autumn Term 2017

Welcome to Autumn Term 2017.

Now accepting  new applications for a September 2017 Start. We welcome RAD Silver Swan, Urban Steel Wheelchair Dance Sport and Inclusive Dance classes to the timetable this term. Free tasters are available during first week of term starting 9th Sept 2017. All welcome!

Following our final company classes on Saturday 22nd of July ‘17 we look forward to inviting a new group of young children to come and join the LCN family in September in the Global Family Dance sessions at 1pm, the Intro to Ballet class at 9.30am and new children of all ages into the Musical Theatre course at noon.

Timings were shuffled last term to provide a framework within which the school might grow and look to have been successful for most attendees. This term the timings are being held as they are and pupils will have their new slots allocated at the end of December following the Exam session with Mrs Cooke on the 3rd Dec 2017. Additional genres were provided and proved a great hit, with excited chatter and learning extending right through to home and family life with reports of animated discussions and improved interest in music, history and other related subjects. These classes are accessible to all ages/stages and will concentrate on essential technique, deportment and multi-level training. They will be open to newcomers or returners and the direction and objectives of class will be tailored to those who enrol.

Younger children have been prioritised to an early morning slot. Please do support your school by spreading the word to interested parties. Any new clients that sign up and pay in full on your direct recommendation will allow you a £10 reduction, applicable to your following term’s fees. Please ask your colleagues to clearly state your name in the ‘where you heard about us section’ on the application form. If you would like to become a liaison point of contact for your Primary or Secondary School please request this clearly on your registration form. Priority for this opportunity will be given to current clients on a first come first serve basis.

The Stow cum Quy Music Night on the 29th April 2017 went with a real swing! It featured 5 live acts who all gave their time generously raising £620 for Parkinson’s UK. Our next Music Night will be on Saturday Sept 23rd 2017 and there are limited spaces for LCN Dance Academy members to perform their set dances. If you would like to perform on the next Music Night or the following one at the end of April 2018 please let us know by e-mail. These evenings are in memory of my mother who sadly passed away in January 2017 but was fortunate enough to be able to fulfil her final wishes of brain donation to the Parkinson’s Brain Bank at Imperial College. Her contribution is said to benefit up to 50 research projects. Please feel free to e-mail me if you would like to help fund research in this area by performing or donating or have any other questions about this difficult subject.

All that is left is to wish you a very happy, and probably hot, summer! See you in September.

Please confirm that you are aware of the following by signing at the end of the statement.

  • I have been offered a taster session, am on the waiting list or hold a place following completion of this form.
  • For the taster, bare feet and PE kit or something comfy is absolutely fine. A bottle of water is also useful. Shoes and school leotard are available to buy or order through the school or association website when I am ready to buy.
  • If I decide that this is not for us at the end of the taster then there will be nothing to pay.
  • If I / we decide to sign in at the end of the session, one term’s fees will be required in full to secure our place. There is no obligation to confirm during the first six weeks but a decision should be made by half term if we wish to accept or decline our place within LCN Dance Academy. Attendance at LCNDA confirms we are willing to be bound by the terms and conditions including one full terms notice in writing to leave the school and ll class fees become due 1 week before the last day of term.
  • I / we understand that my child, if successful in the probation period during the first half term, will wear the regulation leotard and leather ballet shoes purchased through LCN Dance Academy, bbodance website or approved supplier and agrees to all terms and conditions
  • Whittlesford is not a nut free venue, however, due to a know nut allergy within the school, please do not bring nuts in any form onto the premises.
  • Chest size in even inches and current shoe size are to be provided each term in case you need emergency wear. (ballet shoes are usually about 1 full size above outdoor shoe size) Those who wish to donate old dance attire especially tap shoes at class may do so. These will be available for others to buy or borrow for a small donation of £5 to the school running costs.
  • I /we understand that my/our child will be working towards exams and that as such will be required to wear regulation uniform designated for the exam for that grade and genre. Pupils who wish to borrow a regulation leotard, where this option exists, do so entirely at their own risk. LCN Dance Academy will not accept any responsibility for issues arising from the use of second hand leotards. Exam sessions must be scheduled with Head Office three months in advance and is dependent on the minimum financial threshold for sessions being reached. A verbal agreement for examination will be considered as binding. All children in the examination set must wear the same uniform.
  • A one off membership fee of £30 to join LCNDA was introduced in August 2016. It applies to all new pupils.
  • I give parental or guardian permission, as of July 2017, to allow photography or video in class by the teacher as a valuable teaching aid, record of choreography or achievement and where deemed suitable, for advertising of the school. If required, a professional class photographic session may be arranged by LCN Dance Academy for those who wish to purchase a beautiful record of their child’s interests and achievements. Parents or visitors are not to film classes without direct and express permission from the teacher. This is due to safeguarding responsibility and regulations.
  • I have seen the ParQ form July 2017 and confirm that there are no medical conditions that put my child at risk.
  • Please note refunds are not available.

Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) cont.

You must consult your doctor before undertaking any fitness classes. You will need to discuss the nature of the activity you are about to undertake and either present your PAR-Q or tell your doctor which questions you answered ‘yes’ to. Your doctor needs to advise you as to your suitability for unrestricted physical activity.

If you answered ‘No’ to all questions:

You acknowledge that you are taking responsibility for the accuracy of your replies and the decision that you are physically fit enough for unrestricted physical activity.

By signing this PAR-Q I undertake that I have read, understood and correctly answered the questions set out above. I wish to participate in activities that may include aerobic, anaerobic, flexibility, stability, resistance, muscular strength and endurance exercise. I realise that my participation in these activities involves the risk of injury and even the possibility of death. I confirm I am voluntarily engaging in a level of exercise that I consider acceptable and appropriate to my level of fitness. If I have answered ‘yes’ to any of the questions above, by signing this form I am also confirming that I have taken medical advice relating to my participation and my doctor has confirmed I am fit enough to participate.

Informed Consent Form

Exercise programmes are designed to improve cardiovascular (heart and lungs) fitness, muscle strength and endurance as well as flexibility. The programme is designed to minimise these risks, however, if at any time during the exercise programme you feel pain, discomfort or you feel unwell you must stop and inform the instructor immediately.

Each part of the programme will be fully explained to you but please ask questions if you are not clear about anything. Please notify the instructor if you feel you should not do a particular exercise for any reason.

This form should be signed and passed to your instructor prior to taking part in the exercise programme.

I hereby confirm that I have read, understood and answered all the questions on the PAR-Q accurately and to the best of my knowledge. I confirm that I wish to participate in this exercise programme and realise that the activities involve an element of risk of injury or even death.

As the weather is starting to warm up and life is springing forth everywhere we are turning our attention to the coming Summer Term. Usually we like to run 12 week terms as we feel these are optimum. This term the hall will be unavailable one weekend so this term Saturday will be a 10 week term only. Timings have been shuffled to provide a framework within which the school might grow. Additional genres have been provided. Any new clients that sign up and pay in full will give a £10 reduction applicable to your following term’s fees. Please ask your colleagues to clearly state your name in the ‘where you heard about us section’ on the application form. If you would like to become a liaison point of contact for your Primary or Secondary School please  request this clearly on your registration form. Priority for this opportunity will be given to current clients on a first come first serve basis.
